Bolnica Bezbolnica - Smiling Hospital

In January 2011, Croatian Red Cross launched pilot project in children's hospitals called Bolnica Bezbolnica (Hospital without pain). The aim of the project is to improve the lives of hospitalized children by cheering them up with artistic performances. For this project, the Croatian Red Cross was inspired and motivated by the Smiling Hospital International Foundation.

It  has been long recognized that psychological and mental condition are at least as much important for the wellbeing of small patients as the medical care itself. The project aims to cheer up the children by organizing various artistic performances (musicians, actors) and some interesting creative workshops (music, painting, acting) with active participation of young patients (singing, dancing, painting).

The events are organized in two hospitals in Zagreb (Children's Hospital Srebrnjak and Children's Hospital). From the very beginning, the project was implemented by the Red Cross branches in Čakovec, Knin, Varaždin and Vinkovci. Additionally, Red Cross branches of Krk, Novi Vinodolski, Pula, Slavonski Brod, Split, Vukovar and Zabok joined the project as well.

The project is financed from public donations to the Croatian Red Cross (door to door fundraising).
