Safer Europe by higher qualified Lifeguards

In 2011 Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes granted to the Water Life Saving Service of the Croatian Red Cross funds from the Leonardo da Vinci - Lifelong Learning Programme for the implementation of "European Qualification Framework for Lifesaving" project.

“European Qualification Framework for Lifesaving” was developed by the International Life Saving Federation of Europe (ILSE) and accepted by the EU Directorate General on 23rd September 2009. This special EQF is the base for co-ordinating and developing a common standard of education in all European Member Associations of the ILSE (37 Full Members, 3 Associate and 1 Corresponding Member). The ILSE Member Associations from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Spain and United Kingdom participated in this project and were supported by their national EU Agencies.

The results of this project will be a contribution for the development of national qualification frameworks for lifesaving on the base of the European Qualification Framework and consequently an Europe-wide increase of the quantity and the qualification of lifeguards at many European beaches and other bathing areas. The consequence will be improvement of the water safety in Europe.
