Prevention of tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease, which affects the lungs and is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is transmitted via droplets from the throat and lungs of people with the active respiratory disease. Tuberculosis is treatable with a combination of specific antibiotics.

Every year from 14 to 21 September, Croatian Red Cross marks the Anti-TB Week. The aim is to warn the general public, diseased persons and their families on the importance of early diagnosis and proper medical treatment. During that week Red Cross branches intensify visits to the diseased persons in hospitals and their homes and donate necessary food and non-food items.
